David Duc Hieu Nguyen

David was born and raised in Fribourg, Switzerland with Vietnamese roots. His fascination with cinema traces back to childhood, marked by tears shed during his first visit to the movie theater. Surprisingly, this experience ignited his passion for filmmaking, a commitment he has maintained since he held a DV-tape camera for the first time.

David pursued his passion in film direction at the prestigious ECAL University of Arts in Lausanne and majored in film editing at HEAD Geneva. In 2016, he ventured to Hong Kong for an internship in the movie industry. This elevated his filmmaking prowess, fostering a love for foreign settings, and intensifying his curiosity for capturing compelling stories with cross-cultural backgrounds.

Since this experience, David became an award winning filmmaker with short films, music videos and commissioned work selected in film festivals worldwide. He created films in various countries and settings, from the romantic cobbled streets of Paris to the elevated capital of La Paz at 3600m above the sea. He loves creating stories with poetry, humor, and freshness. He has a big interest in the art of body language and movements, antiheroes, and the drive and resilience displayed by individuals pursuing their most audacious goals.

When not on set, David can be found drawing comics and storyboards, participating as a film festival jury member, navigating his FPV drones, or spending countless hours in the editing room, because that’s where a movie comes to life for the third time.
